Inauguration Day -- January 20th, 2009 -- Lillian witnesses the dawning of a new era

Lillian Adams watches the inauguration of Barack Obama with her son Jim, grand daughter Arwen and Rev. Bill Sasso of the Unitarian Fellowship at her home in Carbondale. Her son in law, D. Gorton, is taking the picture.

  1. I remember so many things about Lillian, it's hard to sort through. When my husband Chris Lant and I first started coming to the Fellowship in 1993, she and Ed and Jack and Muriel Hayward would all sit together in the same front row - to me, they seemed like 4 strong oak trees - strong, proud, beautiful. I enjoyed the many times that Lillian would come to talk to the RE kids - the most recent about two years ago, when she talked to some of the high school girls, including my daughter Hannah, and Brittany Hammett and Kendall Bell.
One of my favorite memories however, comes from just a few summers ago, from her 95th birthday party at the Fellowship. After all the gathering and chatting and eating and after we viewed the video presentation that Jane and other family members produced, Lillian stood up to say her thank yous. She said, "I will remember this day for the rest of my life." I thought that was so sweet - it made me tear up then, as I am now.
I really loved Lillian and I will miss her dearly.

  3. Lillian Adams wae a role model. She was a person who cared about people. Because she is no longer with us, we will no longer read her wonderful letters or hear her voice speak out against the cruelties and injustices that those who are helpless and less fortunate are forced to endure
Lillian is gone, but her good deeds and compasion will never be forgotten.
